34 days.

The number of days I haven't posted a thing on Simple Love.
I'm coming up on a year with this blog soon and I don't want it to just go away.

The Fall is always a crazy time, but really when is life not crazy?

I have so many new things to share and can't wait to begin posting again.

Thanks for reading!

back seat.

Wow! Where does the time go? I can honestly say these past few weeks have just been crazy busy [filled with fun things, of course] but I can't believe we have already been married over a month & we are already into the last month of Summer.
My poor blog has definitely taken a back seat to everything that has been going on & I want to be able to get back to posting on a daily basis.

I have many new things to share with you all.

raw and real.

Last Tuesday night, Jon and I were eagerly awaiting [ok, maybe just me, but he was nice enough to come with] the Minnesota Zoo Concert Series where Sara Bareilles was performing.  I LOVE her & couldn't have been more excited for this concert.

Her voice was SO amazing, but this also made the concert bittersweet for me. It's tough loving a singer and having them be so great live, that once the concert's over-you wish you could only hear them live from then on out.
Don't worry-I still listen to her songs all the time.

Sara serenading us for her ending song...incredible!

Here's what the Star Tribune had to say about her concert!

If you ever get a chance to check her out, make sure you do- she puts on a great show.

meet new friends, but keep the old.

Jon and I attended a dentist picnic for all dentists of Dakota Valley along with their employees and families last Friday night. They had food, drinks, Culver's ice cream, a casino, video games, pony rides and a petting zoo for the kiddo's.
Well...let's just say that Jon and I had more fun in the petting zoo than half the children.

Our new friend, Norman...isn't he the cutest?

see, doesn't it look like we're having fun? I just had to share.

You can never be too old for fun!

b-day perks.

Everyone gets to celebrate a special day that is ALL theirs- their birthday! I LOVE my birthday, and people that know me well, know this. I usually begin the countdown early and am looking forward to next year's birthday at the strike of midnight.

I just wanted to share some fun birthday perks that helped make my day a little EXTRA special.

A free yoga class compliments of Corepower Yoga.

A free Caribou Coffee drink.

A birthday percentage off at Anthropologie
I have to admit, this is my favorite!

A special birthday rose at Bachman's.

& ending the night with a free movie code from Redbox.

*Just a little reminder, you must sign up for all programs/emails/memberships from these particular places to receive these perks!

Thank you to my fiance, friends and family for being the real reason my birthday was so special!
xoxo

What perks do you look forward to on your birthday?

outdoor living.

I found these pictures over at Sacramento Street and thought it was an appropriate second post for today. The weather outside is exactly what an outside deck/patio is perfect for and these outdoor pictures are dreamy!  I can't wait to head home and sit outside while enjoying the heat.

it's back!

I remember this drink back in 2002 when they first created it & it became one of my favorites instantly.
I was told this drink has been the #1 requested drink since they discontinued it and it will remain available throughout the warm months-it's gonna be a good Summer folks!

ps. Starbucks is having a Frappuccino HH (happy hour) starting May 6th-15th from 3-5 pm and all frapps are 1/2 off.

making the most of it.

I wanted to write this blog post last Friday for Earth Day, but never ended up getting to it- so sorry!

I don't know about you, but I always find myself buying new shampoo, conditioner and make-up ALL the time. I feel like it always gets used up way too fast.

I found this little blurb on the exact amount's you should be using for each particular beauty product to help avoid wasting your products and your money.

Face moisturizer- use the amount of a peanut for your face, and apply while your face is damp, (from after washing) not wet. Applying your moisturizer while your face is damp allows the moisture to soak in better.
Use another peanut amount to moisturize your neck.

Hair products a.k.a styling cream-use a dime size for thin, fine hair and the size of two nickles for thicker hair. If you end up using too much of your hair product, you can end up looking like you haven't showered in days.
Make sure you are rubbing the product in the palms of your hands and putting the product at least two inches away from the roots of your hair. Grab the end of your hair to make a pony to have the product reach the ends.
If applying the product while hair is dry, make sure you apply the product to the top layer for best results controlling fly aways.

Shampoo- For long hair, use the size of an Oreo & for short hair use the amount of a Hershey Kiss. Shampoo is pretty easy to use more than you need. You really only need to wash your roots and can stop half way through your locks-dirt and oil is mostly found close to your roots.

Sunscreen- divide your body into three sections and use a grape-size amount for each.
First blob, use for your feet & legs. Second blob, use for your tummy and back & third blob use for your arms, neck and face. This is one thing you can never use enough of though, so if you feel you need more, feel free to use more grape-size amounts. Apply every 2 hours for best coverage.

perfect afternoon drink.

I am LOVING this warm weather we are having and can only hope/pray/beg it's here to stay!

One thing that comes along with warmer weather is my love for iced drinks. I must say I prefer iced coffee's/tea's over hot any day. TeaSource happens to be right next to where I work and they have a GREAT iced vanilla chai

If your ever in the Highland Park area-make sure you check them out!

goodbye my love...

Today is Ash Wednesday and with that comes Lent. Whether you are religious or not, it can also a good will power test. Last year I decided to cut out ALL sweets (yes, I'm crazy) I have the BIGGEST sweet tooth; however, still managed to do it- 40 days and 40 nights. This year, I'm planning to do the exact same...but for some reason this time around seems like it could/will be harder. Day 1 & I'm already struggling with my chocolate cravings!

Urggggg...

What is something that would be hard for you to give up?

PS. Cupcakes Thursday WILL NOT stop because I can't eat 'em.

catchin' the most outta those z's.

Something we can all appreciate is a good nights sleep. When your young, you believe that naps are just making you miss out on all the fun. As you get older, you realize that being able to squeeze in a day time nap is like winning the lottery. (okay, not really, but close!)

Your body has 4 stages of sleep, they are:
Stage 1- Your body teeters between alert and asleep.
Stage 2- Your body temperature cools down and your oblivious to your surroundings.
Stage 3 & 4- This is when your body sends you into deeper levels of sleep. Your breathing slows, blood pressure drops and your muscles relax.

You then move into REM (rapid eye movement) sleep for anywhere from 5 to 40 minutes at a time. This is why the best time increment for people napping differs so much. Make sure you don't sleep too long-it can leave you more tired than before.
In REM sleep, your brain is awake, but you are unaware of your surroundings & you re experiencing your most vivid dreams.

Your sleeping style also says a lot about you (and your health)

Stomach- If you prefer to be lying nearly face down, you're likely to be a perfectionist who is compulsive, persistent and goal oriented. These qualities are great for your career, but they don't do your body any favors. Sleeping on your stomach can twist your neck into awkward positions and put more pressure on your spine-which leads to more difficulty breathing. It's recommended you slowly introduce yourself into sleeping in the fetal position with one pillow between your knees and another behind your back.

Back- Staring straight up into the ceiling can signal an adventurous, confident and receptive personality. Sleeping on your back also keeps pressure off your jaw which  is crucial for people who suffer from T.M.J. but back sleeping can trigger unwanted stress on your airway-this is bad for snorers.

Side- 73% of women and 50% of men say they sleep on their side. Most curl up into a semi-fetal position with their knees slightly bent. Side sleepers tend to be compromising and appeasing while people who sleep on their side in a full fetal position are said to be introspective and intense.
Health wise, sleeping on either side helps with snoring and keeps your stomach active throughout the night allowing you to digest food and ease hearthburn.

Just some information to make sure your getting the most outta your night's sleep!
